Exceptional four wheel drive knowledge! My troopy had been serviced for the last 10 years or more by our family mechanic who told me everything that needed to be done was done each time. With a 3 month trip coming up a friend suggested I talk to Brad at Alltrac 4WD. Brad suggested that I bring all my old receipts in and he would have a look at what had been done, and what was likely to need doing. After examination of the receipts and the eventual major service that Alltrac performed it appears that a lot of things had not been done. In fairness to my previous mechanic he had not charged a lot for the services but he wasn't doing many of the items that should have been done. With the Toyota it appears that every 40000km a major service needs to be performed but had not been done. Things like tappet adjustment, wheel bearing repacking, coolant and brake fluid changes were well overdue. I have got to hand it to Brad, after all I am a girl and not very mechanically minded (until then I didn't even know what wheel bearings and tappets were) but he explained and showed me lots of stuff to an extent that at least I am now aware of what some of these things do. This service cost heaps more than I had ever paid for a service before, but as Brad said, “when we finish with your vehicle it will be ready to drive to Cape York and then do the Canning Stock Route or you will have a list of further items that we have found”. There were a few more things that needed doing and couple of items such as the starter and alternator which they overhauled a safety precaution. As I understand, and it was explained to me, some people do a “grease and oil change” and consider this to be a “service”, but there are a lot of other things that do need to be done at times to make it a “Proper Service”. The trip is now over, we did the Cape and Gulf country but never got to the Canning (to many other things to see) and the vehicle performed faultlessly. So If you want your 4wd prepared by people who really know what they are doing see Brad or his dad Peter at Alltrac 4WD.

THESE GUYS REALLY KNOW WHAT THEIR STUFF. I had a problem with wheel shimmy on my Patrol. It had been to numerous 4WD and suspension experts – all they wanted to do was sell me new shocks and steering dampers along with numerous wheel alignments and balances. I recon I had spent over $1400.00 and still had the problem. I finally found out about Alltrac 4WD from a mate and gave them a call. They knew about the problem and said they could fix it for $426.00. I took it in they did the job in about 4 hours and YES it is fixed. They will be servicing the Patrol from now on.

Fantastic service and problem solving skills. I was about to depart on a trip through the Flinders to Innamincka and then Birdsville so dropped the Cruiser off for a service. Steering rack had issues and needed to be replaced so they searched Australia to source one and had it air freighted from Perth overnight, fitted the next morning and I was able to depart the next day. I can't commend them highly enough.

A WARNING! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. I took a car into these guys for a standard service and a checkover to see what needed to be done. $530 later i got the car back and had a week that proceeding where the car failed to start 4 mornings in a row. The RAA came out and said that they had failed to do something as basic as set the points correctly and notice a corroded lead from the distributer to the coil! To their credit they did bend over backwards to rectify the mistakes they had made but on the 5th day when we had all been but garanteed the car was fine.. it once again failed to start!!! The RAA found the fault in less than a minute! The plunger valve in the carby needed replacing. Having had enough i took the car to my trusted mechanic who i should have stuck with, and rectified the problem for $66 dollars. I also had him check the brakes which the guys from Alltrac said needed a total rebuild and he said that the disks might need to be re-machined but overall they were in good condition. You can be the judge but this is my story and this is the first time i have felt the need to write such a review.

Not being from Adelaide, i found these guys on the Net. They were very accommodating in the time they could book my the car in to suit my needs. I can't judge on prices as i would be guessing with my limited knowledge and I didn't compare, but I can say they were upfront on all the work needed to be done, what was priority and there was no pressure to spend more or less money, so I would give them a tick here. When i said it was out of my price range they worked to get 2nd hand parts that would suit. They exceeded my expectations on time frames to complete the work. Their service was by far the best I have experienced from any mechanical work shop and I walked away with the feeling they were genuine, which is hard to find in this industry. If i was a local, i would certainly be a regular customer. Brad;s customer service is rare in this industry given my past dealings with mechanical workshops.
