We enjoyed our stay at the Batchelor Butterfly Farm! If you want to experience the real Australia and meet some local personalities, than this is the place to be. If you care more about the a particular vanilla neatness of bed sheets or prefer all your accommodation to be the same, then go somewhere else. Yes, the decor and amenities require some updating - we acknowledge that. However, as far as unique (but family friendly) experiences go - we definitely felt like we got one. We have two young kids (3 and 2) who were delighted with the butterflies, rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens. The playground, toys and friendly staff also provided a welcome reprieve from their constant need for attention. We spent the days exploring Litchfield and the evenings having a quiet beer at the restaurant. We really enjoyed meeting and chatting to Chris and ate in his restaurant each night. We would highly recommend this place if you want a family-friendly, well priced and relaxing atmosphere to stay whilst you visit the local surrounds.

It was good to get out of the city and it was a lovely spot, and overall we enjoyed ourselves but I can't ignore a few things. We stayed in a cabin at $120. The light bulb missing from the bedside lamp. There was no bath mat or hand towel. Dirty coffee mug. The sheets were polyester, cheap cotton sheets would have been much nicer. As I was going to sleep I couldn't help but notice my pillow smelt like saliva so whether the sheets were even clean is questionable. The pool was nice enough. The butterfly enclosure, saw one butterfly, and this is what they advertise themselves as. What was available on the menu wasn't so and I had a random made up meal instead, we should've just gone down the pub. Oh and the bed was uncomfortable and hard and of poor quality. I'm not sure what the other places are charging but I would suggest paying a bit extra if so as I'm sure it'd be a better stay.

Butterfly enclosure is a joke. Saw maybe 4 butterflys. Saw more walking around in Lichtfield Park. Accomodation was really poor. Bed was hard and uncomfortable and pillows wafer thin. No mini bar. Tv was ancient with a cheap $10 antenna and reception was non existant. Ate at the restaurant on last night and regretted it. Chicken was over cooked and tiny. $32. $14.50 for a cheese cake that was average and had canned whipped cream on top. Could have done a better job myself and i HATE cooking. Avoid at all costs.

We came across the butterfly farm 30 mins before it closed. (not that you would need 30 mins) The six of us paid $10 each, and could not believe what a mess of a place it is. Walked through the run down enclosure, saw maybe 6 little butterflies, and left very disappointed. We should have complained, but didn't want to spoil our lovely day, so we just had a laugh instead. The restaurant looked quite nice, but to accept $60 for what we saw was really just robbery, so we gave it a miss. My advise - just keep going! (to the new owners - a gold coin donation would be a more appropriate fee)
