Carroll's Hardware, 163-165 William Street

I have been buying from this shop many times due to the fact that this is the closest hardware shop in this area. They have a good selection but man , I thought i was the only one being treated rudely - it looks like he doesnt like anybody !

Unfortunately they are the closest hardware store to me but the service is appalling and I'd rather trek out to Alexandria or the burbs for hardware supplies next time. The service is so bad that the last few times I was in there, other customers actually had to tell the staff (yes, the old man again) to serve me at the counter first as he was totally ignoring me whilst stacking shelves and then decided to ask the other customer if he needed help to which he said "why don't you serve the lady who's been waiting at the counter for 5 mins first.." - I won't be back again.

I hadn't read any of the reviews on here but the hardware store is close to where I live. The elderly guy in there is the most unhelpful, rude, ignorant person I have EVER come across. He made me feel like an idiot in front of another customer at the checkout. He did not explain things clearly, had one word answers and just stared after giving these bizzare answers. When I left the store, after purchasing things, on reflection I wished I'd told him to stick his products where the sun don't shine. I will never go back and having recently spoke to a friend who went in there the other week and had a similar experience, he won't be going back either!

Amazing! I went into this hardware store a couple weeks ago and was treated a bit rudely by the man behind the counter. I thought he was perhaps having a bad day, so I let it slide. Just a couple days ago, I returned to the store hoping to find something else and was treated even MORE rudely by the man behind the counter. I was in shock that he would treat patrons this way. I would avoid this store at all costs. There is another hardware store just on Elizabeth Street near Central and then of course there is always Bunnings. ' I'm just absolutely appalled that someone running their own shop could treat anybody with such disrespect.

I agree with Jay. Carroll's Hardware is the WORST hardware store in Sydney. I called Carroll's Hardware to see if they had a product and was told simply "yep" then silence. I waited on the phone for a moment thinking that perhaps the person on the other end had gone to check some information about my request. But then I heard the person serving other customers, no "just one minute please" or even a "can you hold the line". I decided to over look this strange telephone encounter and just walk down to the store to get the information and product that I needed. On arrival I was treated very rudely by the same person I had spoken to on the phone earlier and when I asked to speak to the store owner or manager this person yelled abuse at me. This was without doubt the WORST service I have ever experienced. I was actually afraid for my safety because this person was so loud, verbally abusive and physically threatening. I was followed out of the store and onto the footpath. Do not go here no matter what.
