This is an excellent out of the way camping area. We don't have a 4WD vehicle (Kia Carnival) and although the entrance is steep we have easily climbed in and out on several occasions. It is great that they restrict the number of families camping so you don't feel overwhelmed you just sit back and relax. This will be our fourth visit and looking forward to many more. When you are camping the use of the canoes for paddling in the lagoon is no charge. Great for young kids, plenty to do lots to see, or just sit back and watch the world drift by as you sip another cocktail.

This is an amazing little spot right on the edge of the Clarence River in its headwaters. It is a peaceful spot to stay in the cabins or camping, and for fun lovers it is the takeoff point for a white water canoeing trip. The white water in the head reaches of the Clarence runs well for around two weeks after good rains. The rapids are mainly class 1 to 3, with a couple of 4s. The lodge has canadian canoes you can rent and they can do guided rapids runs or just rent the canoes to you. Leaving from the lodge you can do a 2 day paddle and have them pick you and the canoes up down stream on the afternoon of day 2. Ive done this trip aroud 5 times unguided and found it fun, and quite safe (though obviously not entirely without risk). Id reccomend doing the trip with no less than 4 adults as canoes can get pinned against trees or rocks in the current and thats about the muscle power you need to unpin them, and empty them, so you can then get them to a safe takoff point again.
