Carpark is ticketed so don't let them catch you out. Food was disgusting and the peering glass looked so grotty. Half the enclosures are situated so that nothing can be seen. But great day walking about with someone special.

Have to agree with Phillip. Loved the zoo when I was a kid, and I'm sure they're still doing great things with their breeding programs etc. But walking around on the weekend with the girlfriend it looks like it was last renovated in the 1980's. Dark brown paint peeling off of everything, cracked tarmac pavement, it made me feel like I should be wearing footy shorts and a flannel hat. Its got all of the animals and facilities it needs to be a great zoo, but it needs to get some designers and renovators in there to bring the decor forward a couple of decades to make it really outstanding. Ditto with the food, 1980's tuckshop fare, theres a coffee shop in there now which is a great step in the right direction, walking around with a hot coffee was a real treat, but crumbed chicken strips on chips was a blast from the past. 60c for a packet of sauce luv. Let a grill'd burger or a couple of other kinds of franchises in there and it'd make all the difference. Good food in a zoo would be a real treat. It just feels tired and its a real shame, its a landmark. I hope they get some fresh energy and ideas in there real soon. A zoo is a zoo. Conservation projects are fantastic, but if its not a good zoo first and foremost I'm really worried if it will be there for my kids to go and visit. Just while I'm at it. Was reading how there used to be a hot spring on site and a railway. Spa for mum while dad takes the kids around the zoo and a monorail... I mean the peices are all right there, I just wish they'd seize the opportunities. Fitting the states largest solar array is great, and a noble thing to do, but I'm really not seeing how it helps attract visitors. Fresh paint would go a lot further atm.

Going to the Perth Zoo with some friends after many years since first initially going was a sure exiting feeling, I could not wait ,often making me wonder what new things they had in store and what fresh updates it had to offer. so after spending a day there, even though it was enjoyable, it got boring after the first hour, nothing had changed at all, it was still the same old quite Zoo, this left us kind of disappointed, as we were expecting more entertainment options, the only thing we could do was walk around and look at the same animals, to which most of them were no where to be found in their enclosures, and then listened to quick talks about select few animals.we even had to think out what to do next. the atmosphere was very dull, and there wasn't much keeping us there other than what we came for, just a simple ordinary plain Zoo, I wished there would be more things to keep us there, like for example, more facilities and events to liven the place up, engage the audience and make learning more fun. now don't get me wrong, I had a nice time & thought it was a very nice day out and since I have a passion for animals, that made it even more great, seeing the animals being lazy and all that :D. so you should absolutely go and check them out for yourself, just don't expect anything amazing or different there to see and do. it's nothing that special :)
