Honestly, a bit of a let down. I used to love the aquarium as a kid and while it is still enjoyable, it lacks a wow factor. They retain some of the old, classic exhibitions (like the walk through tank with the sharks and rays), but removed some favourites (the giant crabs and lagoons with eels). I was quite disappointed at the removal of the jellyfish room, with only 1 tank having any. Some new displays are amazing. The crocodile is one of the most impressive creatures I have ever seen, and the penguins could provide hours of entertainment. Although I loved some of the new concepts (e.g. reptile section), I was very let down at the number of "closed" displays, like the water python. Oh, and long-gone is the cool ride at the end =( The new layout is not very enjoyable either. It is very cramped and directed, with little room to branch out and explore. You're more pushed along with everyone else, having to wait to view the next display, which I have never had happen before. Considering a ticket here and the Melbourne Zoo are both around $30, you'll get maybe 2 hours entertainment here, but a whole day at the zoo. It's worth a visit, but only once in a very long while. TL;DR? Some new cool displays, but a lot of old favourites missing, and too many unavailable at the time. Worth a visit, but once is enough. And no ride at the end =(

Awful experience at an event that management have failed to act on. I highly recommend that people avoid the Aquarium at all costs. Over priced with limited access. Go to the Zoo, far better value for money!

VERY expensive, and not particularly worth the money. Did not like the fact that tickets bought online HAD to be printed; (I personally did not have a printer, so had to go to Officeworks and pay to have it printed)...because the barcode was not used at all, the customer service desk simply keyed in the receipt number! I could have just shown the copy of the receipt on my smartphone...not very ecological of you Aquarium. 2 pensioners and 1 child cost over $70, and that was with a 10% discount! I would never go there again....if money and price IS an issue for you, then I would recommend spending it elsewhere, because chances are you WILL be disappointed.

Well worth the price of admission. This is far more fun and interesting than the zoo. Plan to be there early and make a day of it. Could spend hours in one spot here. The irony of eating fish and chips there was too good to pass up.

Isn't Melbourne aquarium meant to be a zoo? Or is it simply an amateurs' interpretation of nature. You can visit MANY aquarium stores in Melbourne which will have on display many reef nature style aquariums. You don't even have to pay anything at the door! I cant believe that every display in Melbourne aquarium is FAKE. Not one real coral not one real fresh water plant. The fish are there -which is a start, but the interpretations of their natural surroundings are dismal and mostly plastic! Even the rocks are moulded clay or something like that.. Its like buying a ticket to the F1 and watching it raced on a cheap video game. Im sure the aquarium works hard at maintaining the facility. I'm positive the good people working there are all fish geeks and would love nothing more than to have displays true to nature to far better educate their visitors. The wow factor would be immense. Im giving it 2 stars, cause I found the penguins amusing.
