Berkelouw Books, 3020 Old Hume Highway, Berrima

They've changed character with an extensive refurbishment and a focus on food, wine and coffee with books as an after thought. Books used to be the prime focus. I rode there by myself on a motorbike 3pm to enjoy a coffee and perhaps have something to nibble after. Sat down as it is table service, and was advised given I only wanted coffee it could be a while until my order is taken as they're still serving lunch. I waited 25 minutes and left. In the time it took to explain they're still serving lunch at 3pm they could have taken the order. I suspect I this was a polite invitation to leave as I rode a motorbike. I'm quietly spoken, no tattoos, bike is not loud, and in no way anti social. They've lost a customer permanently. Even for when I drive the car and friends or family visit.

Now a formal dining experience rather than a causal cafe, not a quick stop over between Sydney and Canberra it once was. Also, at least half the books that were once here are no longer on display. The dining is now centre stage. Not the place it once was.

Finally a good restuarant in the highlands. Great service as well.
