Bundaberg Workers & Divers Hostel, 64 Barolin Street, Bundaberg

Poor to Fair would be a generous rating! The worst hostel I've ever stayed at in 5 years of traveling. I called to book a bed and spoke to a guy who said there were beds available in a mixed dorm. He also said he would pick me up from the bus station as I was arriving late in the evening (11pm) - all good so far. When I arrived I was collected at the bus station as planned, however on the way to the hostel the guys started saying how the hostel was full and all he could give me was a sofa in his office or a room "at the back" (basically in a shed). It was a matress on the floor in a shed with a corrogated iron roof, and agriculture machinery in the shed! I said I was not prepared to stay there and that this was not what was agreed on the phone. He was extremely rude and tried to intimidate me into taking the room, saying that it was late at night and he didn't need to fetch me from the bus stop, and that I was "buggering him around". I asked him to take me to a Motel/hotel, which he did (knowing full well the the reception would be closed). I said I would leave my bag in the car while I checked if they were open and had a room available. He was having none of it and wanted me to get out with my bags and started screaming at me. He then suggested we go to the police station which was fine with me. He dropped me outside the police station and sped off (again knowing full well that it would be closed). I was left on a dark street at midnight all on my own with absolutely nowhere to go! How someone can lie like that, and then just dump a single girl in a deserted street in the middle of the night is beyond my comprehension. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Not only are the conditons horrific, it is not safe!

Just got off the phone with the hostel. All I had the chance to say, was Hi, How are you? I have a few questions about your working hostel..before I was rudely cut off, and hung up on. Very RUDE STAFF!! Thanks a lot Bundaberg Workers & Divers- you wont be getting my business.

I stayed at Bundy Workers & Divers for 3 months and really fell in love with the place! The staff are great, and fair, and the community is awesome. This is a very social place to stay with BBQ parties, group trips to the beach and other arrangements that really makes this place stand out. I met many friends here, people i will stay in touch with for the rest of my life, and I will definatley come back next time I am in Australia! -Magnus
