Cellblock Backpackers Bundaberg

Stayed in Bundaberg for nearly two months, we rang ahead before we arrived there to see was there work.. It was all good and well on the phone, the owner sounded delighted to hear from us and told us to come asap, that there was loads of work and he hadn't enough workers.. We thought this place sounds brilliant. We rang again when we got off the train and asked for directions to the hostel, the owner told us that the hostel was only around the corner and that it takes two minutes from the train station to get there. He knew we would be there in two minutes.. We arrived at the hostel to an empty reception, had to go looking for the owner, we were told by him to wait at reception and he would be with us shortly.. 45 minutes later the owner arrives out in foul humor and quickly deals with us.. Another backpacker approached us later that evening and said 'so ye'r the irish lads the owner was bragging about out the back, that he left waiting for like an hour while he was drinking at the bar' Owner was an absolute clown, had his favorites.. Basically if you didn't suck up to him, you were treated like dirt.. The amount of women I met in there that had been reduced to tears because of the way the owner was treating them.. Taking them off the work list and not even telling them, while they keep paying the rent awaiting for the next time the owner lets them work which was never.. Went up there to save money. Ended up costing me about 2 grand on top of what I earned while staying there.. Place was an absolute shambles.. Owner was constantly drunk and ignorant to certain nationalities.. Cockroaches were everywhere... Only two male toilets and showers worked.. One night all the backpackers headed down to the park to drink GOON :D and when we came back the bar was shut, and kept shut for two days after because the owner was sulking we spent our money elsewhere.. An absolute idiot. The only one good thing about the place was the people staying there, absolute legends! Wouldn't recommend anyone stay there tbh but I heard lots of sob stories about every other backpackers in bundaberg too..

Fun atmosphere but is rundown and in a boring town. Not very clean, kitchen was brutal (mostly the fault of lazy people who stayed there and refused to clean their own dishes), rooms we're O,K, with enough space but nothing fancy, bathrooms were falling apart (only 2 working mens toilets and showers). The place was pretty dingy, especially for the price. But everyone likes to have a good time there and you will meet some great friends. The owner seems to play favorites when it comes down to finding work for you but he is a fun guy that is not afraid to get in on the party from time to time. But I heard this is one of the better hostels in Bundaberg which still isn't saying much. All in all, if you really want to go to Bundaberg call ahead to see how the work season is at the moment (when I went the weather wasn't so good for harvest work) because other than work the city doesn't offer much. This hostel has lots of potential, but with little competition in the area it seems to be run down. It does seem to offer a good atmosphere for partying and having fun though...I am not yet sure if that was because of the hostel itself or the other visitors.

I worried about this backpacks. Because only one review and that was one review has one star. But room was not bad. And biggest single bed I've never seen before some backpackers bunk bad make noisy but here is no worries. And very kind staff. And you can choose air-conditioning room. I stayed here only 1night, 6person room.

Facilities look moderate, but the room was filthy when we checked in, and no change after the cleaners went through (or did they?) They took away the fully molded bread from the top of the fridge after the second complaint, and after three complaints it might be liveable. Best of luck.
