Went for a pregnancy massage with a lady named Cath, but got the feeling she was not specially trained for pregnancy massage. In the brochure they say they do a relaxing pregnancy massage unless you ask for remedial, well this was not relaxing but painful! At no point did she ask how soft or hard I would like it, and at the beginning she wanted me to lay on my stomach propped up by some pillows - at 36 weeks pregnant? It was not going to happen... she changed her mind though and I lay on my side instead, then she wanted me to lie flat on my back, which is strictly warned against by doctors AND midwives. When I said I wasn't supposed to, she said "Oh because the blood might rush to your head?". No, because there is a main artery that lies directly behind the uterus and lying on your back can block it especially in the later stages. This is a commonly known fact and I was surprised she didn't know it. The massage table wasn't able to be moved into a half sitting position, so I was propped up with some pillows instead, until it got too uncomfortable on my lower back and we reverted back to a side position. Would possibly consider going again because they were so cheap ($80 for and hour plus private health care rebate), but would insist on someone more experienced in pregnancy massage.
