Matilda's

OK a bit expensive . Entre fair.Main was great Desert fair

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. Given the prices ( similar to fine dining Sydney restaurants) I was expecting a lovely, fresh, contemporary meal. Instead the menu resembled what you might get at an RSL club or bistro ( except club food I have tasted is much nicer.) My entree was calamari which obviously had not been cooked properly and tasted floury. My main meal was scallops which were swamped in a cheese and pesto type sauce ( very 70's). I could not finish these. My partner ordered fish which had been fried in some kind of macadamia batter which he said just didn't taste right. The only thing I enjoyed was the garlic bread. I thought dessert might be an improvement but alas no - I had strawberries and cream which would have been nice if it hadn't been covered in a very sweet topping which resembled strawberry flavoured ice cream topping you buy at the supermarket. To top it all off, the chef was yelling out all the orders in an extremely loud voice throughout the entire evening. This adversely affected the peaceful ambience of the restaurant. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant - it was one if the very few restaurants I have been to where I could not finish each of the courses as they were so unappetising.

Anniversary Dinner. Matildas is like a diamond in the rough. Kel, the owner first cooked for my wife and myself in an earlier restaurant he had 30 years ago when we were in Nambucca on our honeymoon. He is a superb chef and delivers a meal worthy of any "better" restaurant found in the big cities, and i know because we dine out often in Sydney. Friendly service, scrummy meals cooked to perfection and a pleasant location. What more could you want? Max and Deb

I decided to take my wife out for dinner for her birthday, we were recommended Matilda's by local people, only to find that when we arrived at the door we were told that Matilda's were booked out,( we didn't even get the chance to open the door) i told the lady that we had a reservation, the look on her face it made us feel unwelcome. The staff were not very approachable nor was their service. The meals are very small for the price, we don't mind paying for quality, but this was ridiculous and our meal was cold. In future we will not be recommending Matilda's to any-one. VERY VERY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

As a local business owner from Macksville, I was most disappointed when my husband & I decided to go to Matildas for dinner - only to be turned away by the owners at the front door. Their trading hours clearly state their closing time as 9pm, and we arrived at 8.10pm. They proceeded to tell us that they were closing early due to the fact there was no one around (there were 4 people at a table in the restaurant) and that we should go to the restaurant across the road. We were also informed that it is only common courtesy to make a reservation (one would think this wouldnt be a problem considering the clearly empty restaurant). We will not be supporting them in the future. Most dissappointed!
