I use to hate sandwiches with a passion, as I classed them as a last resort if I couldn't find a pub meal, bowl of noodles or similar. I am the person food vendors cringe at as I order off menu (i.e. at Sea Treasure Crows Nest, ah uncle tong hates us when we do) or I will make it known to all patrons that the food I've been served is not up to standard (i.e. Marigold... how the hell does a fried fish shrink to half it's original size and gets served to you like it was prepped with a spoon). After being tricked for into coming here for the first time (they don't sell pho here!), I find my loathing of sandwiches has disappeared. This maybe down to the fresh produce they use in their sandwiches or it maybe down to the friendly and helpful staff. I can't say I grew up in war-time with food rations, but if what I'm being served is considered war rations for some, I think I'll survive quite comfortably. As for pricing, I've never found it over the top when you consider the freshness of what they use. If anything, when I find time to come down, I just hand money over to Nathan or Julie and they make me something epic. If only I can get my bananna smoothies again, I'd be here everyday.

I have been spending my lunchtimes at Obrien's Sandwich bar for a few weeks now. Might I say how impress I am with the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food they deliver. I worked for many years in hospitality and know how hard it is to achieve consistency but they have nailed it. Unlike the usual processed Americanised franchised food outlets, each time I step in to the shop I am filled with indecision as there are so many different combinations to fulfil my picky palate. I have almost given up choosing and am satisfied with the sandwich of the day on most occasions. The most important part of all this is the coffee. When I order a flat white(FW) I want a FW, I don't want two fingers of foam. Why do Sydney siders think a flat white have a head? When I ask the young lady for a FW I get a FW. It is these little things that make me come back. (almost daily).
