Hi Everybody. The reviews below are way out of date. The Snarling waitress has been evicted from the house YAY!!. The restaurant has undergone a full renovation and extension which takes advantage of the wonderful waterfront views. The new manager has conducted staff training and the service is now sleek and attentive with a smile. The food as usual is exceptional and fresh fish sought on a daily basis. Wine list is detailed with a great representation of Tasmania's wines and some cracker internationals. OK so that's my take...it is the best restaurant in Hobart. I particularly like a relaxed Sunday Lunch at the beach. Yes I am a regular!!

The seafood is expertly done; everything else (from service to side salads) is a bit ordinary. The menu doesn't change much, if at all.

I have eaten at Prossers regularly over the years, and the food is stunning, but you must endure the snarling waitress who you will undoubtedly meet in order to experience their lovely menu. She must be co-owner as it baffles me that someone who is so short, disinterested and rude, can continue to be employed by a restaurant with such a good reputation! Despite this, I would still recommend Prossers, as it's location and menu are simply amazing.

Expected good things after reviewing the menu on the website. Intended to have degustation menu, which it turned out was not available on a Saturday evening. The entire evening was very disappointing. Service was frankly apalling with untrained staff who don't understand the difference between mussles and oysters, forgot to mention specials, forgot to serve drink orders (and later charged twice) and admitted they had never tasted any of the dishes on the menu. The entrée (grilled octopus) was clearly pre-prepared and sitting luke-warm in the kitchen, it was served soggy, salty and chewy. The interior was shabby, we were sitting next to dirty and cracked glass in the window. Altogether the attitude of the staff was that we should feel privileged for dining there rather than trying to make our evening pleasant at all.

Our party of three, two Australians and an Asian, dined at Prossers on the Beach on Tuesday night, 11 August 2009. It was one of the best seafood dinners we have had in Australia and overseas. However, for reasons still baffling us, the hostess took an instant dislike of us. The way she greeted us upon arrival was most unpleasant, making us feel we were unwelcomed. Admittedly, we are not her regular customers – we are visitors from Sydney and overseas. If each one of us had known the other felt the same way, we would have left the restaurant at that point. It was only when one of us mentioned her bad attitude after being seated at our table we realized all of us felt the same way. We then had to 'suffer in silence' while being served by her through entrée and the mains. The evening was somewhat salvaged by the fine food and the young girl who tended to our table after the mains. We still talk about our experience at Prosser"s and try to search for a reason of our poor treatment.
