Rose of Australia Hotel, 1 Swanson Street, Erskineville

This pub is Erskineville's best kept secret. They have great food and staff and a very decent cocktail bar in the back. I used to come here once a week for the fantastic selection of live music but in recent years the music has dwindled more and more. Still a great place for the cheeky Sunday beer.

Menu changes every few months, and you should definitely investigate dessert. There's a downstairs and upstairs area. Downstairs is a fairly typical pub, but upstairs there's a bistro that serves fantastic food. The only catch is it's not open every night. There's a mezzanine floor with a private room available (it has a TV on the wall and a pool table, with a view of the street outside) that can be hired or reserved cheap/free, so this is a good place to host a get-together for a friend's birthday.

The restaurant upstairs at The Rose is the best kept secret in Erskineville. You simply can't walk past the $15 ribs which are absolutely enormous and covered in flavour. The locally brewed Young Henry's beer goes perfectly with it.

Rose of Australian well worth a visit, in the lovely little visit of Erskinville. The best ribs in Sydney, and great vsalue too. Service and staff are pretty good always a friendly face behind the bar and a good selection of beers on tap.

Only popped in to the Rose for a lemonade after being out and about King st all day...I ordered my drink and I gave the manager (barperson at that time) the right money...I thought...( I mistook a $2 coin for a 5 cent coin) and the manager promptly gave me the $2 coin back and covered the 5 cents himself...ok this pub is worth supporting just on that honesty by the manager during my visit... looks like a great venue but a bit on the quite side tonight..I will be back.. a honest gesture deserves support!
