If you are easy going and looking for an alternative to the endless amount of Italian in this town, give it a go... Our party consited of 6 and there was a couple of two also in the restaurant. The food was simple but delicious. I don't know if it was authentic Japanese, but the food was very tasty. The chef was engaging and perhaps a little overly familiar, he suggested a threesome to couple present, but I was confident this was in jest and not to be taken seriously. A tops.time was had by all.

Interesting concept, the chef cooks for you whilst making jokes - mostly very bad jokes but still a lot of fun. Think Borat as a Japanese Chef. He throws the food and makes you catch it in your mouth, in a bowl or on your plate.

Being locals (residing in Malvern) we like to support local business. However as the night wore on at Sakura the "entertaining chef" (as one entry puts it) deteriorated from light hearted fun into a display of crass innuendos and sexist behaviour. There comes a point where one expects a level of professionalism; least we do, especially when such a venue is totted as an authentic Japanese restaurant. On a plus the food and its preparation was a sartorial experience. So too was the service from (I assume the chef's wife) dressed in a kimono. She was both pleasant and friendly. It's a shame that the rest of the chef's approach to entertainment was wrong on so many levels!

What an amazing evening. Greeted warmly as soon as we walked in the door, it felt as we were being welcomed to the family table. An absolutely first rate dining experience which we will remember for a long time. Food was superb, and the overall ambience of the restaurant was absolutely first rate. I am very glad that I stumbled accross this Japanese dining gem in Adelaide, and I wholeheartedly recommend Tony's cullinary expertise to all. I'll certainly be coming back!
