A beautiful building in a beautiful city but what a racket! They have one of those low rent carrillion systems that seems to malfunction. For a short period it can be sweet and appropriate. Today (Saturday March 5th) it started mid morning with a completely un-melodious bell ringing and went on for hours. I went to find someone onsite to intervene but it was closed and no-one answered knocks on the door or calls to the phone number displayed on the door. Over 2 hours later I called the Town Hall ranger and he claimed that they had had "several" complaints. I went again to the Cathedral and another man was trying to find someone to complain to but with no luck. Again I called the ranger and he told me that the Cathedral claims they "test" the bells every month with no way of intervening. I read the previous comment and can only agree. You cannot cause that sort of noise for hours on end and expect people to respect the institution or the building. I read they object to the problems caused by the great unwashed gathering on their precinct for various protest or public meetings. Well hear this. I OBJECT TO THE NOISE POLLUTION THAT GOES ON FOR HOURS WHEN THAT CACOPHONY IS LET LOOSE. At least perform to general standards of community behaviour...then think of exceeding those.
