The Village Larder

The Village Larder is a cosy little cafe located in the beautiful town of Woodend. Stopped in for a coffee only (which was excellent), but was unable to resist having lunch (delicous), followed up what can only be described as an extraordinary piece of cake (we are talking about beyond mere cooking and getting more towards Culinary Art - and yes I am talking art with a capital A). Seemed to be owned by local, friendly, down to earth couple- great service. I highly recommend.

It felt about 20 below when my partner and I were finally forced out of bed with hunger pains while staying in Woodend for a family reunion of sorts. Being from a more Northern state and not knowing much about the area we rugged up in multiple layers and launched out into the Arctic Victorian conditions to try and scare up some late-breakfasty comfort foods. I'm so glad we happened upon The Village Larder. Coffee came quickly and we were thankfully able to defrost the tips of our noses in the heady aroma of a quality cup while we considered the options on the menu. Unable to resist the attraction of fresh, crunchy pastry, we settled on warm, pan fried sandwiches, salami and pork, which we luxuriated over while the kind staff, probably more accustomed to the weather that far south of Brisbane, smiled on supportively. Altogether we had a delightful morning spoiling ourselves, and would recommend a visit to The Village Larder to anyone interested in quality wholesome foods at very reasonable prices. A lovely, warm, homely atmosphere, kind and helpful staff, and fantastic food to boot. 5 stars!

Having read the reviews in the Melbourne foodie press on the opening of the Village Larder and having knowledge of the local area resulted in a drive up to Woodend and then the great experience of locally produced food presented with flair , absolutely fantastic no problems either with the service . Have now been a number of times plus have told friends all with the same result , "lets go back " . Also read that the Village Larder has taken off a local food award no wonder with such great food professionally presented at a reasonable cost. The Village Larder only has to keep this standard to be a absolute highlight in the local area .. to all at Village Larder , thanks for selecting locally produced food and for the wonderful presentation, the tastes and the service, we will be back ... the true foodies
