Zoom Removals PTY LTD

My move was made an absolute joke by these unprofessional bunch. First up, I was promised a large truck and 2 removalists, from Zoom. Instead, without telling me, they sent a pair of contractors. This wouldn't have been a big deal, if the contractors they had hired weren't a pair of rude, unprofessional amateurs. Their truck was old, paint faded, impossible to identify as removalists. They showed up, no uniform, no manners, and worst, they spoke little English- although I think that was more by choice than by a lack of English-speaking ability. Next, these amateurs turned up 3 HOURS LATE! And worse still, we were not told ANYTHING by Zoom removals, we had to chase THEM! And then, they were clueless as to the location of the contractors. Worse still, the contractors provided me a REALLY LAX excuse for their lateness- "oh, we were told to look for o'connor st, instead of o'connell st". This was after he assured me he knew the area well because I had tried ringing him 3 times before he showed to me house. ON TOP OF THAT, they were thew worst pair of removalists ever- EXTREMELY LAZY. They refused to LIFT our furniture, instead DRAGGING our furniture, OVER OUR RENTED UNIT'S WOOD FLOORBOARDS. Well, there goes our bond... THEN, they had NO IDEA how to pack a truck. I'm no expert, but I would have thought that heavy items go first, and boxes go next, to prevent the boxes being DESTROYED? They got lucky none of our stuff was broken during this move, or else it would be on them to replace the stuff. LAST, and perhaps worst, THEY MADE US DISMANTLE OUR BULKY FURNITURE, for their convenience. THAT IS NOT ON. Their ONE JOB is to remove the furniture, in full assembly, safely. So, instead of dismantling our bed that took close to 4 hours to assemble, we had to rely on FAMILY (who shou'ldn't have to get involved when you have hired removalists) to go out of their way, take time off of work and christmas preparations, to help us move a bed. And fragile glass items too, the removalists refused to wrap our stuff free, EVEN THOUGH ZOOM PROMISED US ONE FREE WRAPPED PIECE OF FURNITURE. As the icing on the cake, I HAD TO MOVE MOST OF OUR STUFF INTO OUR NEW HOUSE, FROM THEIR TRUCK. Granted one of the removalists helped me, but the other lazy sod stood there and grinned like a brainless fish. No unpacking, as is noted on the website, no wrapping, and worst, NO EFFORT AT ALL SHOWN BY THESE FOOLS. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE "removalists" to anyone. All they had to do was move a 2 bedroom unit, with two young adults, who don't have much stuff, ONE SUBURB OVER. LITERALLY A 5 MINUTE DRIVE. And yet, they failed almost every component of the move, EXCEPT SAFELY MOVING BETWEEN HOUSES. At least our furniture is intact. Our move was scheduled for 11am, they showed up at 2. By the time this whole debacle was over, it was 5pm.

Update 19/12/13: So I recently used their service again, and this time I am incredibly disappointed. The guys (young skinny boys, really) they sent me were sulking the entire time, clearly unhappy to be there. Huge contrast to the previous time where the men were friendly, cheerful and physically capable. They were rather slow, and not at all careful handling my items. I saw them dragged a shelving unit across the driveway, and there were ton of scratches by the end of the move, which they insisted were "already there" when they saw me staring. Also saw them picking up a few boxes hurriedly and placed onto the trolley as I exited my building. I suspected they dropped them while tossing it out of the truck, and I was right. Opened those boxes later, my things were in a mess, and several fragile items were broken despite being carefully wrapped. In the end, I had to help with carrying a lot of the smaller items as they were just taking too long. The entire move took nearly 3 hours. This is just 1 (large) bedroom worth of boxes/bags, with only several med-sized furniture items. Once again, a huge contrast to the previous guys who took just about an hour and half. Really does look like the service has gone downhill, like the more recent reviews suggest. Needless to say, I would not be recommending them to friends anymore, nor will I engage in their service again. *** Old Review *** Used their service once back in January 2013 and they were incredibly fast and efficient and I was really pleased to recommend them to friends. I have booked them for another move before checking the more recent reviews and was surprised to see so many negatives. Definitely feeling a bit concerned and will keep a close eye on them during the upcoming move. Expect an updated review. ***

After reading these reviews I was a little (very) concerned, but in the end a professional job was done! * Boxes - After a couple of stuff ups picking the boxes up, they delivered them to my house free of charge - on a Saturday * Start Time - I would recommend being the first move of the day to ensure start is on time. I was due to start at 7am, and the team were there at 6:55am. I get the feeling if you were a later move then your start time would be impacted by the time taken for the previous move. * The move - Large 2 bedroom apartment from 8th Floor (small lift) to 3 bedroom apartment 2nd floor (no lift). 7.5 hours but this required 2 trips. The two trips was annoying but I will share a bit of the blame, probably didn't provide enough detail needed to guess truck size. Probably cost an extra 90 mins to overall time. No breakages or damage. In the end the two guys I had (Sam?) worked flat out for 7.5 hours, moving some difficult items (gym equipment etc), and got the job done. Having used different companies over the years, most recently an interstate move, these guys were on par.

Used Zoom Contractors to move 1 suburb. They turned up 4 hours late and it took them 6.5 hours to move a 1 bedroom unit. Cost me a fortune and I ended up with a broken washing machine, broken fridge, broken microwave and 3 smashed glasses. They refused to pay and they never offered me insurance. They refused to negotiate with Fair Trading and it goes to the Tribunal soon! Wish me luck!

I was very surprised to read all the negative reviews about Zoom. I have used them twice in the last month (one small move, and one big move) and both times I was very pleased with their service. Maybe they have new staff now? The first move, they were an hour late as they were held up somewhere. They keep saying they were 10 mins away - that is my ONLY criticism. I didn't mind that they were late, but would have preferred them to tell me actually how long so I can plan, rather than standing on the street waiting etc. HOWEVER, once they got there, they got everything in the truck very quickly and efficiently, so much so, that we quickly forgot about them being late! They more than made up for it with their efficiency. The 2 guys were quite young, but polite and professional, and careful with the items. The second move was a large job so I paid extra and hired a 3rd man. This made a massive difference to the efficiency of the move, and was well worth the extra money. Sam and his team arrived on time, and were very friendly. They took great care in moving my things. I pointed out the fragile items and they made note to pack them in the truck carefully. Nothing was too much trouble for them, even when I had to ask them not to use their trollies in the old place because the floors scratched easily. They didn't complain, just said "no problem" and got on with it. They just got stuck in and got the job done quickly. I will definitely use them again. Free boxes that are delivered and picked up (for a small fee) makes a huge difference to the cost of the move as well. Any time I have phone the office, the girls have been friendly and helpful. Really happy with their work on both moves.
